What are Widgets?OSX WidgetsA Dashboard OSX widgets is a concept introduced in OSX 10.4 Tiger. They are mini applications that is always running in the background. They run on what Apple refers to as the Dashboard. The Dashboard is installed with every copy of Tiger. By default they are accessed by pushing f12 on your keyboard.Yahoo! WidgetsA Yahoo! widget engine (aka Konfabulator) was an engine created for both Windows XP, and OSX to support widgets. Yahoo! widgets are mini applications that sit on your desktop. They run on the Yahoo! Widget engine which needs to be downloaded before the widget will be able to run. They can be run in many different modes, one being "Topmost" which is handy if you want it to always be on top. Currently the eBay widget only works on the PC, but we are working on OSX support.Vista gadgetA sidebar Vista gadget is very similar to OSX widgets except they are found in a bar on the side of the screen. You don't use a "hot key" to bring them out like you do in OSX, and they also have 2 "modes". A small mode where it fits exactly in the sidebar, and a large mode (when you drag them out of the sidebar and onto your desktop). That can show you a lot more information.iGoogle gadgetsA iGoogle gadget are small little web applications that fit on to your personalized "iGoogle" homepage. Anytime you load this personalized homepage, all the gadgets that you have selected will also load in their respective positions. Gadgets can be move and reordered to your liking. These changes will persist even when you leave the webpage and come back. | |
